Dr. Samantha Goldwater-Adler
Clinical psychologist
Dr. Goldwater-Adler provides psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults, and works with parents and caregivers seeking support. She helps people understand what may be keeping them stuck, find practical ways to cope with what they are facing, and work toward changes that matter to them. Her approach is active, collaborative, and tailored to each person’s needs and circumstances.
Who she supports
Dr. Goldwater-Adler works with a broad range of emotional, behavioural, and relationship concerns. These include anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), stress, low self-esteem, unwanted habits, relationship difficulties, life transitions, parenting challenges, and the emotional impact of stressful or prolonged circumstances, including litigation.
You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong or what needs to change. Your experience, concerns, and goals help shape the work together.
Approach
Dr. Goldwater-Adler provides structured, collaborative psychotherapy using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness. Together, you work to understand the thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and circumstances contributing to your difficulties, clarify what you would like to change, and develop strategies you can use in everyday life.
Initial conversations and questionnaires may be used to better understand your concerns and guide the psychotherapy.
Her approach is active and practical. Meaningful change often comes from trying new strategies between sessions, noticing what happens, and bringing that experience back into the work. Any exercises or practice are agreed on together and are intended to feel manageable, relevant, and useful to you.
With children, she uses CBT and principles from Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS). She works with parents and caregivers to better understand what may be contributing to a child’s difficulties and to find practical, effective ways of responding. Depending on the child’s needs, parents or caregivers may join sessions or meet separately to coordinate support and help children practise skills at home.
